K. Flay Postpones San Diego Show

Alt-hip-hop star K. Flay has announced the postponement of her Jan. 13 San Diego show

Fans hoping to see K. Flay at the Observatory North Park on Saturday, Jan. 13, will have to make other plans.

On Thursday morning, the alt-hip-hop star (born Kristine Flaherty) announced that the show was postponed due to issues out of her control.

"I'm very sad this morning ... I've just been up for a long time trying to figure out Saturday in San Diego," Flaherty told 91x on Thursday morning during an on-air interview. "We found out this morning that the venue I'm going to play at is temporarily shut down."

K. Flay posted on Facebook that the North Park club was going to be "temporarily shut down due to maintenance repairs." This news follows similar circumstances surrounding the abrupt postponement of the Sweet and Tender Hooligans' show on Jan. 6 at the venue. That show was rescheduled at the same location for Feb. 16.

SoundDiego has asked the Observatory North Park for more information regarding the show cancellations.

There are silver linings to the situation, however: K. Flay also said on Thursday that the Observatory show was rescheduled for May 8 at the same venue with the same opener, Sir Sly. Tickets for Saturday's show will be honored on the new date.

And in even more immediate good news, both K. Flay and Sir Sly will still be performing in San Diego on Saturday, Jan. 13 -- but in a much more intimate setting.

"I just want to show my appreciation to San Diego and still play music and show up," Flaherty said, "so we have organized a free acoustic set" to be held in the driveway of the Vinyl Junkies Record Shack in South Park (2235 Fern St.) on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

"It's just really important to me to give people a little bit of the show," she added.

K. Flay's been on a roll lately: Her latest album, 2017's "Every Where Is Some Where," garnered two 2018 Grammy Award nominations recently (Best Rock Song for "Blood in the Cut" and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical), topped Billboard's US Heat chart and is enjoying sold-out shows all over the country.
