If you won’t be making that trip to the festival in the desert this weekend, there are plenty of events to keep you entertained in San Diego. 

Friday, the English Beat headline at the Belly Up; the Hills Like Elephants record release party with Wild Wild Wets, Schitzophonics and Gloomsday is at the Casbah; the Touchies and Chica Diabla play Soda Bar; the Andrew Jackson Jihad, the Smith Street Band, Jeff Rosenstock and Chumped are at the Irenic;  Rebecca Jade & the Cold Fact and Erik Canzona & the Narrows are at Seven Grand; the Downs Family is at Bar Pink; Igor and Red Elvises with DJ Heather Hardcore are at the Merrow; and the Widows and Creepy Creeps take over the Whistle Stop. Get your dance on with Tjani at Bang Bang; and UZ at Bassmnt.

Saturday, the English Beat return for night two at the Belly Up; Elliot Brood, Shelby Earl and Pall Jenkins are at the Casbah; Peaking Lights, the Most Hi, Chill Pill, Identity and Other Bodies DJs are at Soda Bar; and Buddy Guy is at the Balboa Theatre. Elsewhere, Club Sabbat is celebrating its 17-year anniversary at Numb3rs with both rooms and DJs John C, Liquid Grey and yours truly; Booty Bassment is at the Whistle Stop; Ashleigh Wallbridge takes over Bassmnt; and Saul Q is at U-31.   

Sunday, Antemasque (featuring Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodriguez-Lopez of the Mars Volta and At the Drive-In), Le Butcherettes and Sister Crayon take over the Belly Up; Tomorrows Tulips, Feels, and Tarek Wegner are at the Casbah; Mos Def aka Yasiin Bey hits the Observatory; Halcyonaire, Ohioan and Plastik Deer are at Soda Bar; and Homeless Sexuals headline at the Tower Bar.
