Glee Star Goes Over the Edge

One Glee star is about to daringly step over the edge for charity.

Lauren Potter -- better known as Becky Jackson on Glee -- is taking a break from her role as Sue Sylvester's right-hand woman to lend her own hand to Kids Included Together (KIT). For the third year in a row, the organization will be hosting Over the Edge for KIT, a fundraising event at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego. Potter will be serving as honorary event chair for the day.

The goal? Rappel 33 stories (357 feet) off of the hotel's harbor tower. The purpose? Support disabled children as they participate in out-of-school programs.

Anyone can participate in five steps. First, prospective particpants must go to the event's site to create a donation page or pledge to help someone else with theirs. Then, they have to raise at least $1,000 to earn a ride over the edge. On Aug. 20, 2011, they'll practice rappelling from a lower height, and then, they're ready for the big leap! After finishing (hopefully unscathed), they'll join KIT for a Landing Party safely on the ground.

With each participant raising $1,000, last year's event was able to raise more than $70,000. The fundraiser won a Stay Classy Award for Most Creative Fundraising Event by a Charity. KIT works with affiliates around San Diego to co-enroll 15,000 children with disabilities into 64 organizations like the Boys & Girls Clubs, YMCA and more.
