Gator By the Bay Brings the Bayou to San Diego

The 17th annual Gator By the Bay takes over Spanish Landing Park on May 10-13.

See you later, Gator: If gobbling up some sweet, sweet crawfish and soaking up some of the finest zydeco, blues, salsa, Cajun, rockabilly and boogie-woogie around sounds like a good time, you're in luck -- Gator By the Bay 2018 is right around the corner.

San Diego’s largest, most-authentic Louisiana-themed music and food festival this side of the bayou returns for its 17th year on May 10-13 at Spanish Landing Park (across from the San Diego International Airport) with four days of music (100-plus performances on seven stages), food and so much fun.

Good times are always on deck at the annual multi-day festival, because when you mix non-stop live music, dancing and more than 10,000 pounds of fresh Louisiana crawfish together, the results are guaranteed to be completely awesome.

“Gator By the Bay is a can’t-miss event that brings Louisiana’s rich culture to the West Coast by showcasing the region’s eclectic melting pot of history, food, music, dance and more,” said Gator By the Bay producer Peter Oliver in a recent press release. “We invite both San Diegans and visitors from afar to immerse themselves in an authentic Louisiana experience -- from joining in on an extravagant Mardi Gras costume parade to breaking out some zydeco dance moves on the floor to cracking open a flavorful crawfish.”

Organizers recently announced the festival’s lineup, and it includes Grammy-nominated swamp-pop/soul/zydeco groups the Pine Leaf Boys and the Revelers; Keith Frank & the Soileau Zydeco Band; blues guitar-slingers Sonny Landreth, Mr. Sipp and Rod Piazza & the Mighty Flyers; Sao Paulo, Brazil’s own Igor Prado Band (with hometown chanteuse Whitney Shay on vocals); San Diego blues singer extraordinaire Earl Thomas (who's written music for Tom Jones, Etta James, Solomon Burke, Screamin' Jay Hawkins and more) and his Gospel Revival; and even more acts to be announced soon!

Tickets, including single-day and multi-day passes, are on sale now and available for purchase at gatorbythebay.com.
