G. Love Brings Special Sauce Back to San Diego

Formed in 1993, G. Love & Special Sauce is an alternative/hop-hop/R&B three-piece from Philadelphia fronted by Garrett Dutton (G.Love). Known for his good looks, unique vocals and laid-back vibe, Dutton is no stranger to the San Diego scene.

In addition to countless appearances at 4th and B, Street Scene, the Belly Up Tavern, and the House of Blues, G. Love collaborated with North County's Tristan Prettyman on Prettyman's 2006 solo release, Lemonade (on Jack Johnson's Brushfire Records).  Here's video of the two performing "Beautiful" at Lou's Records in Encinitas:

Following a series of solo endeavors, G.Love is back with the Special Sauce, releasing their 11th album, 2009's  Long Way Down, independently in Australia. A recent jaunt overseas has landed the band back in the states for a 40-city tour that will include a stop this Friday at House of Blues, San Diego. If you have yet to experience G.Love and Special Sauce live, I highly recommend the show.  A veritable entertainer, G. Love knows how to throw a free-spirited party.

For the record: That picture above of G.Love and myself was shot in 1997 at the old 91X studios. At the time, I didn't have gray hair or a belly.
