Dance in the New Year

Let the celebrations begin! This weekend is so full of win. Great parties all over San Diego on New Year's Eve and even New Year's Day.

But first, warm up on Thursday night with the Dresden Dolls at House of Blues downtown. This show is part of their reunion tour; the band is celebrating its 10-year anniversary. I know it isn’t a dance event per se, but it’s definitely something I had to mention for you dark cabaret lovers. After that, head down the street to Voyeur so you can experience French DJ/producer extraordinaire Brodinski.  His sets range from noisy techno to bass heavy house to minimalism. His debut track, Bad Runner, leaked onto blog sites months before its release in October 2007. Since then, Brodinski has delivered remixes of songs from Bonde de Role, Klaxons, Das Pop, D.I.M. and Adam Sky, just to name a few.  For more details go here.

Friday gives you plenty of New Year's Eve options, including ringing in 2011 at the Flame in Hillcrest for the Club Sabbat Gothic, Industrial and Fetish Party. DJs Liquid Grey, Drew Harlander and yours truly will be providing the soundtrack for your dancing pleasure. There will be a special performance from Chain Goddess Brandy, where sparks will be flying and metal will be grinding.  Sounds like a great way to toast with champagne at midnight. Another option to tickle your fancy: Head to the W Hotel, where some of San Diego’s best DJs -- including Gabe Vega, Eric Diaz, Colorvision, Afterlife, Pleasure Victim and Anthony Ross -- will be shaking things up. And then there’s the all-inclusive Big Night San Diego at the Hilton Bayfront that features 12 themed party areas with six dance floors. DJs Scooter & Lavelle, Happee, Edgartronic, Mike Czech and Mike G will be playing everything from electronic to hip-hop.  So much to choose from!

Saturday continues the New Year's weekend, with the Kava Lounge celebrating its 6-year anniversary with Club Ascension. I’ll be spinning the best in dark underground dance music, along with Tom King and special guest ChadO. The Kava Lounge has been our monthly home for more than four years, and we are so happy to be part of the festivities. Another great option: Check out Imaginarium, as On Broadway and Charmed Life Entertainment bring you a night of glitter and glamour, delivering a variety of awe-inspiring entertainment. From hoop and belly dance to stilt walkers and acrobats, you can enjoy four different rooms with DJs Jonny Quest, Miss Genesis, Seize, Phobik and Ka.
