It's (Gabe) Vega, Baby!

I just returned from a relaxing few days at a resort on the Newport coast. It was a great way to unwind; hard to believe it was my first vacation in third years. Needless to say, I was feeling somewhat guilty doing absolutely nothing. I’m so used to multitasking that when I’m not, it feels strange. I didn’t detach completely, as I still checked Facebook, Twitter, e-mail and the web for the latest news and information. Touch my iPad and I’ll pummel you! The good thing is that I don’t need a vacation from my vacation. I’m ready to get back into the swing of things with some dancing and DJ action over the next few days -- especially because the end of the world is coming this weekend! ;-)

But first, my Thursday night picks include 12th Planet at Voyeur, an El Dorado Brit-pop Invasion and Markus Schulz at Fluxx. Los Angeles-based John Dadzie, aka 12th Planet, has frequently been cited as the American Dubstep King. With or without that label, he knows how to work a dance floor. Maybe you’ve seen him spinning at one of the bigger festival events like Coachella, SXSW, Ultra, Electric Daisy or Beyond Wonderland. Kastle will be doing an opening set at Voyeur, so get ready to shake it! More info via this link. At El Dorado, it’s Youth In Revolt: A Brit-Pop Dance Invasion, with Profile, Saul Q and special guests. Enjoy all the music that invaded the late ‘70s and early ‘80s across the pond. Plus: Christine De La Torre will be celebrating her birthday. Get the details here. Fluxx EDM features Markus Schulz (one of the Top 10 DJs in the world) headlining the festivities. Also: Jason Ross, DigitaLife and Josh Silver will play sets throughout the night. More info here.

There’s so much to choose from on Friday. BT at Voyeur, Dr. Indulgent’s birthday party at Kadan, Hyphy Crynk at U-31 and Elev8 at Spin. Over at Voyeur, you’ll enjoy the multitalented stylings of producer, artist, film composer and technologist BT. Plus an opening set by Victor Dinaire. Here’s the link with more info. Moonshake is happening at Kadan, and resident DJs Quark, Dazzla and Indulgent will be manning the decks as the celebration rages on for Indulgent Lee’s birthday. Get in on the action here. Another celebration will be happening at U-31 for Whiskey Pete’s birthday, as he pulls out all the stops for our dancing enjoyment, along with Hyphy Crunk and Gabe Vega. The festivities at Spin feature LA’s rising star of dubstep, J. Rabbit (Play Me, Badman Digital), and a stellar lineup of local DJ talent including Osal8 and Headshake.

Hmm, which Judgment Day Party to choose from on Saturday? Well, Boys & Girls at El Dorado has Aussie duo Light Year (Bang Gang), Erick Diaz (Nite Vision) and Adam Salter (B&G Resident). Light Year’s USA Vacation 2011 continues, and they’ll be hitting San Diego this weekend, so don’t miss out. Check out their latest mix here and gear up for the party hosted by themixster.com and Leila Aman! Also on Saturday is the 10 Year Whistle Stop Anniversary Party, and Transport will be brought back for one night only! Yes, one night only, so make plans to get your dance on with DJs Gabe Vega and Saul Q. More info here.

Check out other Thursday through Saturday events via my blog. It’s the end of the world, I feel fine, and I’ll see YOU on the dance floor!
