County Fair Setting Stage for Concert Calendar

Some of the musical acts for this year's county fair have been announced, and its shaping up to be quite a show.

This year's schedule includes retro mastermind Lenny Kravitz on June 14, local stars Switchfoot three days later and SoCal's own Beach Boys on June 29. As in year's past, the lineup is heavy on established stars from the world of rock and country, but at least two shows stand apart so far: Neon Trees -- whose roots can be traced back to Temecula -- who spent much of 2010 opening for 30 Seconds to Mars and are currently on tour with Angels and Airwaves (led by Blink-182's Tom DeLonge, another artist with local ties), have signed up for a June 22 show.

The other date without connections to classic rock or country music is gospel star's Kirk Franklin concert, which is scheduled for June 25.

Among the other artists slated to perform this summer are:

  • June 16: Randy Travis
  • June 18: Melissa Etheridge
  • June 21: The Doobie Brothers
  • June 23: Willie Nelson’s Country Throwdown
  • June 28: Travis Tritt and Charlie Daniels Band

Other than the Switchfoot show, the portion of the lineup that has been announced so far is a complete departure from what was programmed in 2010.

While the venue can technically handle as many as 9,000 concertgoers, between 3,000 and 5,000 people attend individual shows.

The fair begins June 10 and will run through July 4.
