CHON to Release New Album in June

Fresh off of their Coachella appearance, CHON are already prepping their next big move

Fresh off of their Coachella appearance -- with Kenny G, no less -- CHON are already prepping their next big move: a self-titled album, to be released on June 7.

"CHON" will be the band's third record since they formed in San Diego in 2008. Their pleasant, mathy instrumentalism has earned them respect -- and tour slots -- from some of the biggest names in prog rock today, Coheed and Cambria and Animals as Leaders included.

In 2017, the quartet, composed of guitarists Mario Camarena and Erick Hansel, drummer Nathan Camarena, and bassist Esiah Camarena, debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Heatseekers Chart. With their new album, they're going for gold.

"We really wanted to make songs with more simplistic structures, but also the craziest parts we've ever had musically," Mario said in a press release.

"I think our music is already so weird that when the structure is also crazy, it can be hard to follow. I really wanted this album to appeal to people who maybe don't listen to this style of music," he added.

CHON release their self-titled album on June 7. Pre-order it here.

Rutger Ansley Rosenborg has been with NBC SoundDiego since 2016. Find out more here.
