"I’m always writing in my notes, usually it’s a few bars at a time ... [and] whenever I have time to myself I like to cook up beats usually 2-3 times a week," San Diego's Tc Doe, a gravel-voiced 25-year-old who splits creative duties as a rapper/producer, told SoundDiego.

He's had a breakout year, and after releasing a run of singles that have helped to raise his profile, his stock is rising. But he's taking his time and insists that these are the early stages.

"2017 I was just sticking my toe in the water. This is only the beginning. We have been studying the game, but soon we will attack," he said.

It's chess, not checkers, and on his latest "He Hate Me," featuring Rossi Rock, he's out to get his, highlighting a keen sense of self-awareness: "Not too many friends, Ice Cube, Mike Epps, 'bout the Benjamins."

And for most artists that'd be a nice way to finish the year -- with a catchy new song that's gaining traction -- but Tc has a few more plays to run: "Before 2017 is over, I’m going to release a new project and a couple videos," he said.

Indeed, and with 2018 right around the corner, the sky's the limit.

"I’m looking forward to building off whatever success I will have from my upcoming project. I really want to continue to create with Daygo artists and producers. We have a few guys that are ready to blow up, and I want to be a part of that. So be ready for more and better music from myself and others here," he said.

    Absolutely, we're all ears.
