91x Hits Sun Fiesta Out of the Park

Headlined by the Head and the Heart, 91x's new summer show heads to Petco Park

Summer in San Diego ain't for the faint of heart -- nearly every weekend is jam-packed with some type of music fest, foodie event, street fair, art walk and beer/spirits/wine shindig (or some amalgamation of all of 'em). We sure love our fun in the sun, don't we? Well, now 91x implores you to add yet another entry to your calendar for Sun Fiesta at Petco Park's Park at the Park on Friday, Aug. 2.

Headlined by folk-rock songsmiths the Head and the Heart, the succinct lineup also boasts alt-rockers Lovelytheband, rising pop artist SYML and up-and-coming indie-pop trio Twin XL. In true San Diego summer event fashion, the all-ages show promises craft beer, cocktails and artisan food as well.

Tickets go on sale Friday, June 7, at 10 a.m. PST at this link (VIP ticket packages will also be available for purchase). A presale for 91x members begins on Thursday, June 6 (sign up here).

Set to run from 4:30-11 p.m., Sun Fiesta looks to be a modest replacement for the local rock radio station's annual X-Fest summer event -- which, in 2018, was supposed to feature Beck, Death Cab for Cutie, Twin Shadow, the Struts, and others before it was canceled unexpectedly. Could Sun Fiesta signal the beginning of a new, yearly 91x tradition? All signs point to yes.

"It was 25 years ago, in the summer of 1994, when 91x presented the first 'Sun Fest,'" 91x Program Director Garett Michaels told AllAccess.com. "Now in the summer 2019, we’re stoked to launch our first 'Sun Fiesta'! Enjoying happy hour in the Park at the Park and an incredible evening of music will be the perfect way to kick off the first weekend of August in San Diego."
