Graduation Rate Falls in California, Even As It Rises Elsewhere

    The Public Policy Institute of California has found that, by 2025, California will have one million fewer college graduates than it needs to fill the jobs that will require that level of education.

    But there's little reason to be optimistic that this state can close that gap. After all, we can't even produce enough high school graduates.

    Dan Walters of the Sacramento Beedissects new numbers on high school completion and finds that the percentage of California high school students who graduate is falling -- even as the same percentage is increasing nationwide.

    California is falling behind.
