Woz Says ‘jOBS' Film Clip Not Accurate

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak said a clip from the new Steve Jobs biopic, "iJobs," wrongly portrays the duo

Any film that portrays living people is probably not 100 percent correct because, as Aaron Sorkin said, Mark Zuckerberg in 2010's "The Social Network" was only a character in a script because Sorkin had never met the real person. Perhaps the same can be said of Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak in "jOBS."

"(It's)totally wrong," Wozniak told Gizmodo after viewing the first clip from jOBS. "Steve came back from Oregon and came to a club meeting and didn't start talking about this great social impact. His idea was to make a $20 PC board and sell it for $40 to help people at the club build the computer I'd given away. . . .The lofty talk came much further down the line."

Wozniak said that he was the one most interested in computers through the Homebrew Computer Club, and computers affecting society was his idea. "Anyone who reads my book iWoz can get a clearer picture," he said.

However, Wozniak said he was aware it was only one clip and hasn't seen the film. He also told Gizmodo that he was aware that there's dramatic license in filmmaking. "It's OK to make up a dramatic scene but it is much better if it sort of happened" and the meaning accurately portrayed.

So far, though, with the one clip he's not impressed. "I never wore a tie back then," he said. "I wore blue jeans and the same-style, blue, button-up shirt every day of my life."

Sorkin later kind of apologized for portraying Zuckerberg as a creepy misfit, but we're not sure jOBS filmmakers will issue any such apologies to either the late Jobs or Wozniak.
