iPhone Wakes You Up With Bacon

Smartphones can now wake up users with the smell of bacon and coffee.

Your iPhone can bring you the smell of bacon from an app from Oscar Mayer that lets users wake up to the sound and smell, according to Mashable. Oscar Mayer is making a limited number of the Wake Up and Smell the Bacon iPhone app and dongle that will let users both hear and smell the scent of frying bacon and soothing "baconisms," or pro-bacon words and phrases.

“With nearly two million mentions of #bacon on Instagram, it seems people never get tired of bacon. That’s why our team decided to develop a device to give folks what they long for most,” Tom Bick, senior director of integrated marketing and advertising at Oscar Mayer said in a statement. “As the category leader, Oscar Mayer is thrilled to bring the first-ever, bacon-scented mobile device to market, giving bacon aficionados a new reason to welcome their morning alarm clocks.”

Right now the only way to get the app is by trying to win one of the dongles and app on its website. The contest ends April 4 and winners will get the gadgets in six to eight weeks. Those testing the app and smell-emitting dongle said that the bacon scent was a little more "saddle-like" but also another said it was pleasantly smoky, according to Mashable. The dongle will also come with a bacon scent refill.

This isn't the first time that marketing has used smelly apps to promote a product. Earlier this year, Pop Secret released Poptopia an app that would fill the room with the scent of buttered popcorn, according to USA Today. There's also a Scentee digital diffuser which can also fill the air with the smell of coffee to complete the morning scent motif.
