Reddit Founder Says Everyone Should Learn to Code

Reddit founder and executive chairman Alexis Ohanian told Press:Here that everyone needs to learn how to code -- and he should know because he's the non-technical founder of the community of shared links.

"The reason why I err on the side of everyone knowing how to code (is that) it's especially important for this generation coming up," Ohanian told Press: Here. "In five years you can go from starting a company at a bus station like Dropbox to being the owner of a multi-million dollar company, but that will only happen to those people with those skills."

The only way to guarantee an even playing field that gives everyone the opportunity to hit such instant wealth is by turning everyone into a programmer. "We have huge demand for people who can code and those jobs are not going away," he said.

As for he looks for when he invests in a company, Ohanian said that he primarily gauges his investments on the founders rather than their plans. "What matters most to me are the founders," he said. "I want to see some founders who I believe think they can really do this."
