As the year is winding down rumors of Facebook going public are beginning to resurface and the social networks list of the most shared articles of 2011 alive has been released.
The Palo Alto-based social-networking site unveiled the 40 most shared stories during the past year Tuesday.
"The stories range from cute to though-provoking and represent the type of news people have been sharing and discovering with friends in 2011," Facebook's Malorie Lucich said.
The list is filled with stories of natural disasters, parenting and death. Three articles about the passing of Apple CEO Steve Jobs, three were about new Zodiac signs and the most shared story centered around satellite photos from the earthquake and Tsunami that hit Japan.
