Facebook headquarters have posters appearing on its walls saying, "Do you 'droidfood? Switch today" and "Here come the Androids," in an attempt to get its employees to discard their iPhones.
Droidfooding refers to "dogfooding," in which engineers have to use their own creations or apps to figure out how to make it better. In essence, Facebook is asking its employees to use Android because that's the platform that's rising in use.
“We don’t encourage one device over another. We let employees choose," a Facebook spokesperson told TechCrunch. “I don’t have a ratio but with the early focus on our iPhone app and the multi-year cycle of carrier contracts we do have more iPhones deployed.”
According to Facebook, there are now more staffers with Android phones, even if they still keep their iPhones. Does that mean the posters did their work? Facebook didn't rise to the bait. "There’s plenty of people here carrying around both devices, and not just engineers and not just mobile people.”
