R.I.P.: “James Bond” Composer John Barry

Although Monty Norman is the man credited with writing the iconic "James Bond theme," John Barry is the man who made the Bond films really swing.

Sadly, the five-time Oscar winner passed away this morning at his home in Oyster Bay, Long Island. He was 77 years old.

Barry won a Golden Globe for "From Russia With Love," and took home Academy Awards for "Dances with Wolves" in 1990, "Out of Africa" in 1985, "The Lion in Winter" in 1968 and "Born Free" in 1966. He was also nominated in 1971 for his work on "Mary, Queen of Scots" and again in 1992 for "Chaplin." He penned the scores for 11 of the Bond movies.

Illness had kept him from working since 2006. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Laurie, their four children and five grandchildren.
