“Precious” Scribe Fletcher Scores Mulligan and Ronan for Directorial Debut

Geoffrey Fletcher is wasting no time in reaping the fruits of his recent Oscar win for his "Precious" screenplay, landing two of the best young actresses out there for his first directorial effort.

Oscar nominees Carey Mulligan and Saoirse Ronan are said to be starring in "Violet and Daisy," which is being described as, "Thelma and Louise meets Superbad and Pulp Fiction," according to Showbiz 411.

For both Ronan and Mulligan this represents a second possible upcoming film role that will require them to flex a little muscle, literally.

Ronan is also planning to star alongside Eric Bana in "Hanna," as a teenage girl who is raised to be an assassin. It sounds like a cross between "Bourne" and "The Professional," which sounds lovely, thank you.

Mulligan, meanwhile, is rumored to be eying the titular role in David Fincher's remake of "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," the prospect of which is no doubt giving her publicists nightmares. It's a rough role that goes to some dark places, very different from her sunny, if precocious, disposition in "An Education."

Fletcher is also working with director Doug Liman on a film about the Attica prison riots.
