“Monsters” Man Gareth Edwards Tackling “Godzilla”

Gareth Edwards made one of the best sci-fi movies of 2010 with a cast and crew of fewer than a dozen people, and a budget well under $1 million. So making a decent monster movie with a Hollywood budget should be a cakewalk for him.

Edwards, writer-director of "Monsters," has been giving the job of bringing back "Godzilla," reported Variety. That's right, more than a decade after Roland Emmerich ruined the great green monster for a generation of moviegoers, he's rising from the depth of the Pacific once again.

If you've seen "Monsters," Edwards' fantastic directorial debut, you know that the man knows how to sell the sizzle and not the steak when telling a story about monsters. Further, he proved he understands the importance of humans in a monster movie, and how make the connections between monsters and humans.

We were pretty much done with "Godzilla" when the closing credits rolled on the 1997 Matthew Broderick version, but with Edwards at the helm, we're all in.
