NBC Eyes “Prime Suspect” to Replace Leno

With Jay Leno moving back to the post-news time slot, NBC is suddenly scrambling for content to fill the five hours of primetime that will soon be opening up, which could bring the BBC's "Prime Suspect" to our shores.

The original series featured Helen Mirren in the lead role as homicide detective Jane Tennison of Scotland Yard. The show had a successfull run on PBS and has been a Netflix staple for years. In seven season, Mirren's work on the show garnered her five Emmy nominations, with three wins.

Yes, the history of American TV is littered with terrible British reboots, but everyone had doubts about "The Office," and that's turned out reasonably well.

NBC (our parent company) has also given the go-ahead on projects from the muscle behind the "CSI" empire (Jerry Bruckheimer), "House" (David Shore) and "L.A. Law" (David E. Kelley) among others, and already has a series from "Lost" creator J.J Abrams on the way.
