Nolan Won't Help Next “Superman” Soar, Says D.C. Exec

Not long ago movie hero fans everywhere were breathing a sigh of relief when it was learned that Christopher Nolan would be serving as "godfather" to the upcoming retooling of the "Superman" franchise. It was a nice idea while it lasted.

"We don't have any plans about that, and as I've mentioned, in the coming months we'll be making a lot of announcements about what our content plans will be," D.C. Entertainment President Diane Nelson told MTV when asked about Nolan's possible involvement. "But right now, the [Nolan/Superman story is] nothing but rumor — and we frankly don't say a whole lot more about rumor than that."

Nelson went on to shoot down talk of a "Watchmen" sequel, which is frankly good news. Regardless of how you feel about the original, trying to pick up where someone like Alan Moore left off simply is not a good idea.

The Nolan-Superman talk started on Feb. 8 with a report on Deadline Hollywood, in which Nikki Finke cited an "insider" as saying Warner Bros. was planning to bring Nolan on board.

After letting the disappointment set in, one if left with one of two conclusions: the folks at D.C. are liars or fools, possibly both. If Nolan's not involved, why let folks believe he is? Why would you not get Nolan involved? And if you had been smart enough to get him on board, why on Earth would you lie about? The internet buzz machine had Superman fans dancing on air for a couple of days, and now...

Nolan is too busy prepping his next film, "Inception" for its July 16 release, but at some he'll have to come up for air, as The Playlist notes, and when he does, we're apt to get the final word on this mystery.
