Freida Pinto Escaped the Slums, But Not “Apes”

It's been too long since we've seen the divine form of Freida Pinto on the screen. So we're heartened to hear the news that she is in talks to star opposite James Franco in "Rise of the Apes."

Variety.com reports that Pinto will play the role of Caroline, a primatologist in the prequel to the "Planet of the Apes." Trust us, she's not going to like what her new ape research comes up with in this movie. Franco will play a fellow scientist and John Lithgow will play the father of Franco's character.

It seems that scientists will learn the "Jurassic Park" lesson again the hard way in this prequel as they mess about with Mother Nature, this time with genetic engineering. This leads to the development of supreme intelligence in apes. Naturally, there's a war from supremacy. Judging from the fact that this is a prequel to "Planet of the Apes," well, let's just say that the war doesn't go really well. In a perfect world the apes will stroll out of their cages, say, "Who's your Daddy now?" kick some human butt, order Chinese food and discuss whether Woody Allen has another movie in him.

Even though man is about to gets its collective butt whipped by supremely smart monkeys, this prequel is all the more exciting since will it will feature Peter Jackson's visual effects house.  This means no goofy costumed actors. It also means that King Kong will have his spiritual revenge once and for all.

No doubt, the smart apes will spare Pinto because you never can be too smart to appreciate smoking hot. Good move fellas!

The beginning of the end begin shooting next month and hits screens on June 24.
