“End of Watch” This New Trailer

Gyllenhaal and Pena are the LAPD's best and brightest!

We love us some Michael Pena and Anna Kendrick, and we're OK with Jake Gyllenhaal, so we've been looking forward to "End of Watch" for a while. Having just watched the first trailer, we're not sure what to make of it.

Pena and Gyllenhaal are young hotshot cops on the LAPD, the scourge of miscreants all across the City of Angels, in this film that was written and directed by David Ayer, the man who penned "Training Day." This looks to be a fairly standard issue gritty cop drama: they're partners and best friends, facing the dangers of the streets together and blah, blah, blah...

Much of the footage is dashboard cam stuff, but many of the scenes from outside their cop car are of the same grainy/choppy/jittery quality, and we're not sure why--is this a faux doc? We'll find out.

Kendrick and Pena are way overdue for their shots at stardom, and we're not convinced they'll find them here, but at least they're working. "End of Watch" opens Sept. 28.
