Diana Guevara and Nicole Gonzales Join NBC 7 San Diego

San Diego, CA – September 28, 2011 – Diana Guevara and Nicole Gonzales join the NBC 7 San Diego news team. Guevara joins as a news reporter with a special concentration on the border and issues affecting our Hispanic community and Gonzales as a general assignment reporter.

Bilingual in English and Spanish, Guevara previously hosted and co-produced “Shades of San Diego,” a semi-monthly half hour multi-cultural public affairs program on Cox Channel 4. A first generation Mexican-American, she brings a unique perspective as the daughter of former migrant field workers and the youngest of four children. Diana’s father went on to join the U.S. Air Force and become an engineer for NASA’s Space Shuttle program.

“Growing up Hispanic has meant learning early on to appreciate the difference I bring in culture and perspective,” says Guevara. “Also, growing up in a tight knit family, it’s a reminder to never forget where I came from, no matter how far personal goals may take you.”

Also new to NBC 7 San Diego, Gonzales worked at KSL5 News in Salt Lake City, Utah, where she won a Society of Professional Journalists Award for “Best Consumer Report.” A graduate of the University of Southern California, Gonzales also worked at KTLA, Los Angeles, where she was a traffic reporter.

NBC 7 San Diego is also proud to announce they are celebrating several inspiring Hispanic leaders in the San Diego community for Hispanic Heritage Month including San Diego Chargers Defensive tackle Luis Castillo, Chula Vista Police Chief David Bejarano and his daughter, Deputy Attorney General Marissa Bejarano. NBC 7 San Diego is also honoring San Diego anchors Catherine Garcia and Artie Ojeda along with their new reporters, Guevara and Gonzales.

“We are proud to introduce Diana and Nicole to San Diego during Hispanic Heritage Month and we look forward to their contributions covering our local Hispanic community and the rest of our city,” said Greg Dawson, NBC 7 San Diego’s Vice President of News.
