Ryan Mathews did not participate in practice Wednesday at Chargers Park. Is this just precautionary or is there a more serious problem the Chargers aren't revealing?
Mathews has been playing with a sore ankle for the past few weeks. In Cincinnati last Sunday his playing time was limited. Mathews offered a little insight to his availability for the Broncos game, "It's week 19, so you're not going to be 100% and there's a difference between playing hurt and injured, but you gotta keep going."
The Chargers sure hope so. Mathews rushed for 127-yards and a touchdown at Denver a month ago in the Bolts unlikely 27-20 win at Mile High. An offense without Mathews would put the Chargers at a huge disadvantage come Sunday.
Linebacker Jarret Johnson might have put it best regarding injuries this time of year, "When the stakes are at their highest it's weird because everyone is at their worst. Everyone feels terrible. Everyone is hurt."
