At one point, at least three -- and possibly all -- lanes on Interstate 5 north just south of the Coronado Bridge were closed, and traffic quickly backed up for miles.

The truck jackknifed at about 7:09 a.m., and it was more than an hour before most of the lanes reopened. At least three other vehicles appeared to be involved in the wreck, and at least one person was hurt. It's not known how seriously injured the victim was.

  • CoasterRider Friday, Mar 20 at 9:10 AM FLAG COMMENT We MUST get rid of these huge trucks; sometimes they pass eachother and take up three lanes of traffic leaving no room for the cars. It's terrifying to get caught in between them. I could easily do without the goods they carry if we could just get rid of them - at least during rush hours. The drivers are all on speed, trying to make good time.
  • WiseGuy Tuesday, Jan 6 at 2:28 PM FLAG COMMENT Anonymous and no so wise are you? (Yes I am) if you two have something to say then say it...lol. Gee, guess the roads are safe according to your myopic observations. Hope your not sideswiped, rear ended, delayed or GASP killed by any of the highly alert responsible people who navigate the roads around here.
  • anonymous Tuesday, Jan 6 at 1:51 PM FLAG COMMENT you ignorant people, the trucks build the very roads you are driving on, give them respect and there are no problems. cut in front of them and there are big problems. and by the way everything you eat, wear, sleep on, sit on, etc, gets there by truck.
  • Peggy Tuesday, Jan 6 at 12:40 PM FLAG COMMENT Suggestion: either ban transportation trucks from the freeways between 6:00 - 9:00 am and 4:00 - 6:00 pm, or designate the HOV lanes for truckers only during those hours. As an I-15 commuter, I get really tired of being squeezed off or slowed down by big rigs.
