Victims Trapped, Traffic Snarled

Rescue crews worked to free people trapped inside a Chevy Tahoe north of Lakeside Wednesday morning, CHP officials said.

The vehicle plunged 50 to 60 feet down an embankment on Highway 67 near Slaughterhouse Canyon Road about 7:30 a.m.

Southbound lanes of the highway were closed for the rescue effort.  Traffic was allowed to move slowly through the center divide. 

CHP officials urged motorists in the area to be patient.

The highway has recently been called one of the most dangerous stretches of road in the county.  Read More

The state is putting $265,000 toward stepped-up enforcement along the highway over the next year following a deadly crash that killed a woman.
