Which is worse: Dealing with the insanity that is McCarran airport, or trying to stay awake while driving through the desert?

There's no correct answer to that question. Both options can be brutal.

For travelers, getting to Las Vegas has always been a pick-your-poison adventure -- but finally it looks like there may be a better way.

Plans for a high-speed maglev train from Anaheim to Las Vegas will get a dose of $45 million in federal funds. The money was approved years ago, but the go-ahead is finally going ahead, according to the Nevada governor's office.

We know what you're thinking. This train pipedream has been dangled just out of our reach for three decades. That's true. But a journey of a million miles starts with a single step -- or something like that. We're just pumped about getting to Vegas via train.

The line would start in Anaheim, the Los Angeles Times reported:

Gov. Jim Gibbons said the Federal Railroad Administration will administer the money that was earmarked by Congress for the first phase of the system, which would extend from Las Vegas to Primm on the Nevada-California state line. The train, which has been in the planning stages for almost three decades, would run 270 miles to Anaheim and cost at least $12 billion to build.

Currently, the only commercial maglev train runs in China, the Times reported.
