Super Yacht Business Is ‘Booming'

Five months ago, you wouldn’t have seen 150’ boat in the San Diego Bay. Now, even a 250’ boat isn’t a rarity, according to organizers for this weekend’s Yacht Fest.

Dubbed the “New Super Yacht Capital” just a few months ago, the business has seen in resurgence starting in early summer. Organizers of the annual boutique yacht show hope to entice more folks into adapting the lifestyle.

A super yacht is described as 150 feet or above according to Yach Fest spokesperson Neal Estlery.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, YachtFest San Diego presented by San Diego Marine Exchange, offers what larger shows don’t – a close glimpse inside some of the world’s most luxurious floating vessels that range in size from 60 to over 155 feet.

If you're a little short on discretionary cash, remember you don’t have to buy the boat, you can charter them.

View the list of participating boats, put on your business casual and get over to Shelter Island this Thursday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Of course if you do, be sure to follow proper yacht etiquette: wait to be invited onboard and follow directives from the crew with regard to shoes, food and beverages.
