A new discount store opened up Thursday in San Diego offering a limited number of 22” televisions for less than a buck.

Several San Diegans lined up for hours this week to get one of the Philips Flat Screen LCD TV advertised at a special price.

College Area resident Charles Elders lined up around 8 a.m. Tuesday after his son showed him the ad offering a television for just $.99 to the first nine people in line.

“I thought he was just joking me, pulling some kind of prank,” Elders said.

Standing next to a shopping cart holding his brand new purchase, Elders said spending more than 48 hours was worth it.

“My kids’ TV is on the fritz, losing its sound. I got 9 kids. Times are tough,” he said.

Tony Yera, VP of Operations said the store at  Market Street  and 26th Street was the company’s 18th store in San Diego County.

The store was built from the ground up Yera said and employs 60 people.

Elders said he'll be heading home with his prize. His new TV "may" be used to watch the Super Bowl but "definitely Modern Warfare III,” he said.
