Carlsbad theme park is building and expanding

Legoland announces plans to build the first Lego-themed water park in the world.

The new water park will cover 5.5 acres and will include a 45-foot tower, several water slides, and more than 20 Lego models.

Legoland executives say the new water park will create more than 100 jobs in the Carlsbad area.

"We'll begin hiring quite soon and as soon as we open the water park in June, by that time people will have been on board with us for about a month or so; so it's early summer that we'll begin recruiting," General Manager Peter Onchetti said.

Legoland plans to invest more than $15 million into the resort this year.

Other features to look for include a new 4-D movie and expansion of the Sealife aquarium.
