La Jolla Post Office is Moving

La Jolla Main Post Office moving to smaller location

The La Jolla Main Post Office is relocating to a smaller building to raise some much needed capital after a tough year for the U.S. Postal Service.

The U.S. Postal Service reported a net loss of $5.1 billion last year, according to the U.S. Postal Service.

“Mail volumes have decreased significantly over the past several years, adversely affecting the Postal Service’s revenue,” said spokesperson Eva Jackson.

The La Jolla Main Post Office at 1140 Wall Street is moving to a smaller location about a mile away from the current location.

“P.O. Box numbers will not change and the hours of operation will remain the same,” said Jackson.

In 2011, mail volume decreased by 1.7 percent from the previous year, according to the U.S. Postal Service.
