The beginning of October can only mean one thing: Oktoberfest is near. La Mesa is hosting its annual Oktoberfest celebration this weekend with enough food to tempt anyone off their diet.
Thirsty for some local suds? The Big Beer Garden will host drinks from Karl Strauss Brewing Company, where there will be live music, including the Bavarian Beer Garden Band.
Thousands are expected to attend the event to enjoy the carnival rides, games and 400 vendors.
La Mesa Oktoberfest is free to enter. Festivities begin Friday, Sept. 30 at 11 a.m. at La Mesa Boulevard and the Allison Street parking lot. During the weekend the event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 1 from 11 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. and Sunday Oct. 2 from noon to 5 p.m.
Trolleys have been scheduled to run every 10 minutes for people to get to the event safely.
