The Linkery does not accept tips.The North Park restaurant instead charges the gratuity for dining-in guests. "Our service revenue -- like all our revenue -- is distributed among everyone who works here," the Linkery's Web site states. If customers feel the need to tip, the restaurant accepts cash as a donation to the restaurant's charity-of-the-month, which is listed on the menu.
Ken Cassinelli, who owns a nearby Italian restaurant, was appalled according, to a story in the New York Times. It had taken him 30 years of waiting on tables to set aside enough money to open his restaurant, Apertivo, according to the report. He said that tips built his restaurant.
