Sweet Success

A Carmel Valley dentist has taken candy from babies and plans on giving it to soldiers with sweet teeth.

Dr. Curtis Chan bought 1,500 pounds of Halloween candy from 360 kids during the Great Halloween Candy Buy Back, paying out $630 to keep cavities from taking hold.

The office in the 12750 block of Carmel Country Road is still buying candy now -- the deadline is Thursday at 3 p.m. The following day,  organizers will be heading up to Van Nuys, Calif., and giving the treats to Operation Gratitude, who will then deliver the candy to troops overseas.
