San Diegans used to need a tank of gas to find a Sonic, until one opened up in Santee last month. Now the North County could be getting a Sonic of it’s very own (drum roll please).
The franchise is planned for downtown Vista on the South Santa Fe Avenue business corridor, the North County Times reported. It will be under construction in the "next few weeks," Dave Powroznik of D&M Investment Partners told the paper. "We hope to be open prior to Sept. 1."
Powroznik says the response to the Santee Sonic has been incredible.
"When we first opened, there was up to an hour and a half wait," he told the paper. Even today, cars queue 10 to 30 deep to get onto the lot.
Under a recently revised lease, the Vista Sonic must open by Sept. 30. There is some more good news for Sonic fans; the company plans to build at least nine Sonic drive-ins in the county, roughly two per year.
