Want to smoke at an outdoor restaurant in Carlsbad? Well, starting on Nov. 1 you can’t.
This week the Carlsbad City Council voted to prohibit smoking in outdoor dining areas. The ban will apply to all unenclosed dining areas where food or drinks are served – and that’s including sidewalk cafés. Smokers will also be required to stay 20 feet away from outdoor dining areas.
Carlsbad already bans smoking at beaches, lagoons and parks.
It’s not the only San Diego County city to enact such a ban. Chula Vista, El Cajon, Encinitas, National City and Solana Beach also do not allow smoking at outdoor restaurants.
The ordinance is scheduled to be adopted on Oct. 2 and will go into effect 30 days after that.
California bans smoking inside restaurants, schools, hospital campuses and… most places, really.
So Carlsbad smokers, could this be extra incentive to quit? Research has shown smoking can be pretty bad for your health.
