The event was also a celebration: Customers honored the store's staff and wrote them notes of thanks.

Coffee-lovers in San Diego are banding together, hoping to save their local Starbucks.

The Campus Plaza Starbucks on El Cajon Boulevard was the second Starbucks to open in San Diego. It's scheduled to close later this year, however.

"There's a lot of customers that want to see it kept open," organizer Susan Hopps-Tatum said. "We've got over 1,800 signatures on a petition so far, and we just want it to be a win-win situation."

In an effort to save it, local customers organized a Save Our Starbucks event. Supporters have united with phone calls, e-mails and signatures on a petition asking the company for some time to increase business.
