It’s that time of year again – fried Twinkies, snickers… even frogs legs. The San Diego County Fair is rolling into town but with today’s economy in shambles you might be wondering if you can afford it this year.
Yelp.com is coming to the rescue. If you’re a “Yelper” you can try the best fried food the fair has to offer this year – for free!
From Twinkies to spam to frog legs to avocado slices to a chicken burger patty in between two slices of raspberry filled Krispy Kreme dough-nut with honey slathered in it, you can be sure to find just about everything battered in dough and dunked in hot oil. The deep fried snickers is the favorite among fair-goers considering the hot oozing caramel and the melted, creamed nougat paired with the combination of the chocolate breading and crunchy peanuts that it provides your taste buds.
If you're looking for a healthier option, maybe try some smoked or grilled turkey legs that are much too large for just one person and according to one Yelp-er, a tad too salty. Another “irky” thing about the turkey legs is the long, flat white pieces of bone running the length of them.
With all this salt and sugar in your system, you will certainly need an ice-cold watered-down lemonade or creamy Orange Julius if you don’t think $5 is worth a can of soda.
The event runs June 18 from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m.
