The weather in San Diego this Memorial Day Weekend may not be as sunny as usual but luckily, there are still plenty of fun, local things to do indoors.
For starters, how about visiting the many indoor museums at Balboa Park? Most of them are open throughout the weekend, including Memorial Day Monday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
This includes the Veterans Center, the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center, the San Diego Air & Space Museum, the San Diego Automotive Museum and the San Diego Museum of Man, among others. Check out the full list here.
Meanwhile, movie buffs could also use the less-than-perfect weather as an excuse to hit the movie theater.
Memorial Weekend offerings this year include Men in Black 3 starring Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, and Wes Craven’s Cannes Film Festival hit, Moonrise Kingdom, starring Tilda Swinton and Edward Norton.
If the movie theater just isn’t your scene, maybe free food is more enticing.
BGR: The Burger Joint located at 3960 West Point Loma Blvd. will be giving away free hamburgers on Memorial Day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and again from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in honor of the all-American weekend. For dessert, head over to the brand new D Bar San Diego eatery located at 3930 5th Ave. in Hillcrest. This is the first full weekend of the restaurant’s grand opening.
Over in the East County, San Diego’s top casinos will be open all weekend to indoor enthusiasts.
Sycuan Casino is hosting a Memorial Day “No Limit Hold ‘Em Tournament on Monday starting at 10 a.m.
Finally, the USS Midway Museum will be hosting several “Legacy Week” events throughout the weekend in honor of U.S. servicemen. Visitors can enjoy several activities aboard the Midway, both outside and inside. For details, check out the USS Midway Museum's event calendar.
