Oscars Fashion: Best Supporting Actress Nominees

The fashion cues we might like to see on this year's supporting ladies.

PENELOPE CRUZ: With her penchant for classic, romantic styles, Nine siren Penelope Cruz already does a good job of staying fresh and fabulous while looking totally effortless. She was lovely at the Golden Globes in a beige strapless column dress, so this Dolce & Gabbana drop waist dress with sweetheart neckline, sheer skirt and contrasting embellishments would suit her already well-honed tastes while showing off some contemporary glamour.

VERA FARMIGA: Though Vera Farmiga is still a relatively new name, she's had plenty of opportunity to show off her colorful fashion curves. We can appreciate the attempt at classic black in her Golden Globes red carpet look, but her lithe figure is too fabulous for the extra curves a mermaid dress provides. If she wants to go darker, we'd rather see her do it in this metallic Badgley Mischka gown with sheer black overlay. It's on-trend for this season and the grecian cut better suits her figure.

MAGGIE GYLLENHAAL: Sure, Maggie Gyllenhaal plays a country-loving journalist for her nominated role in Crazy Heart, and she's shown us all that she knows how to be vintage cute and fresh. But we love Maggie's sassy, pin-up looks from her Secretary days, and we'd like to see a little more of that mixed into her sophisticated fare. This Jean-Paul Gaultier bustier/halter column with matching gloves brings back some of that subtle sensuality while keeping with Maggie's modest charms.

ANNA KENDRICK: Another fresh-face, it's hard to find a picture of Anna Kendrick not wearing neutrals. As an actress with a growing list of accolades, we think it's time for her to step up her derring-do with fashion and step out in a bold cut and shade. As such, what could be bolder and more classic than this red, silk-wool strapless gown from Marchesa?

MO'NIQUE: As many of us learned from her Golden Globes appearance, Mo'Nique is into the au natural approach when it comes to shaving her legs. When you have as much attitude as spunk as she does, however, you'll get few to argue with whatever you decide to do. We're hoping she'll opt to keep her gams classy (and covered) anyways with a nice, long deep-purple gown like the one from Tadashi.
