It's a drive-in experience on sea level when you board the Star of India for "Movies before the Mast" night on Friday. The San Diego Maritime Museum offers these cinema nights under the stars during the summer and Fridays are date night so hook-up and snuggle to watch "The Perfect Storm" starring film superstar George Clooney.

It's a signature event that sometimes draws as many as 200 people for the popular movie night that began 18 years ago on the historic ship. Saturday nights are family night.

Chairs are provided but you're encouraged to bring a blanket because the nights can be a bit chilly and you can use it as a cushion for your seat.

"People love it, it's San Diego's mainstay for summer programs, " office manager Warren Potts said.

The Star of India is the world's oldest active ship. She was built in 1863 and is in the process of a major preservation project to sustain her beauty for another fifty years or more.

"Movies Before the Mast" dates and show times are listed on the San Diego Maritime Museum's website. Future films include Deep Blue Sea, The Sea Gypsies and Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas.

Food and beverages can be purchased, and alcohol is available on Fridays.
