Your job: Decide to get out of town and fast. Our job: Help you find where you're headed. This week, Worth the Drive takes us to...

Santa Barbara Sea Festival: It's two weeks of gallery looking, sea-themed scavenger hunts, tidepool wanderings, cruises, and other shore-close activities.

Dates: May 1-15, 2010

What we want to do: Learn about sustainable seafood at the Ty Warner Sea Center. And spy spiny things at the pools at Leadbetter Beach.

Costs: Some events will have a fee, like the tidepooling; check with the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum, or at the url listed next to the event, to find out more.

Stay close to the water: Marina Beach Motel does have "beach" in its name; rates start at $184/queen for a weekend night. The Blue Sand Motel is a block, says the site, from East Beach.
