Actor John Wayne's personal property on display at the John Wayne Auction Preview at the Ukrainian Institute of America at the Fletcher Sinclair Mansion.
For the first time in movie history, John Wayne fans will have a chance to get a first-hand look at hundreds of costumes, memorabilia, and scripts from the iconic movie star’s personal collection.
Among the personal items on display during a public preview at the hotel Monday morning through Wednesday, the iconic eye patch and boots John Wayne wore in the 1969 movie “True Grit”, his handwritten notes while filming the movie, a gold bracelet and belt buckle with Wayne’s nickname “Duke” engraved and letters to John Wayne from U.S. presidents and celebrities.
The public has the opportunity to view the items Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the hotel. The live auction is scheduled Thursday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
John Wayne appeared in more than 170 films over the course of his movie career, which spanned six decades. He was nominated three times for an Academy Award and won the Oscar for Best Actor in 1969 for “True Grit."
