For the first time in movie history, John Wayne fans will have a chance to get a first-hand look at hundreds of costumes, memorabilia, and scripts from the iconic movie star’s personal collection.

Fans who like what they see can bid on the items in a live online auction or in-person at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza on Thursday, Oct. 6.

Among the personal items on display during a public preview at the hotel Monday morning through Wednesday, the iconic eye patch and boots John Wayne wore in the 1969 movie “True Grit”, his handwritten notes while filming the movie, a gold bracelet and belt buckle with Wayne’s nickname “Duke” engraved and letters to John Wayne from U.S. presidents and celebrities.

The public has the opportunity to view the items Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the hotel. The live auction is scheduled Thursday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

John Wayne appeared in more than 170 films over the course of his movie career, which spanned six decades. He was nominated three times for an Academy Award and won the Oscar for Best Actor in 1969 for “True Grit."
