Chula Vista High School will host the “Mariachi Extravaganza” event this weekend at the Jack Tygett Performing Arts Center located at 820 Fourth Ave.
The mariachi fiesta begins at 11:30 a.m. and will feature food, fun and, most importantly, three lively mariachi concerts spanning Saturday and Sunday.
The first concert will feature all student participants specially trained in mariachi by musician Jose Hernandez, frontman of the famous mariachi group Sol de Mexico.
That student showcase is at 6 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $5.
The other two mariachi performances are scheduled for 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets cost $15-$20 and can be purchased ahead of time or at the door.
The event is produced by the district’s Visual and Performing Arts Department.
