‘Guerrilla' Gays?

Enter the Sweetwater Saloon in the Hard Rock Hotel Friday night and chances are you’ll see a different crowd.

The site is the first “takeover site” in a new program launched by local gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender social networking groups in their Guerrilla Queer Bar campaign. The idea is to have your friends get “out of their zone” and show up at a bar outside of Hillcrest and the normal GLBT haunts.

“It’s an easy way for LGBT San Diegans to become more visible outside of our community in venues we wouldn’t venture,” event organizer Carlos Marquez  told the Gay & Lesbian Times.

An e-mail sent out 24 hours before the "takeover" tells participants to "Look Good. Bring Friends. Take it Over."

The e-mail reminded people to keep the group's "zero tolerance policy on violence or bitchiness" in mind as they join in.

If you want to take part, the event is planned for 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 16 at the Sweetwater Saloon, which is at 207 Fifth Ave.
