Give Peace a Corner

The word of the day to ring in 2011: Peace.

Give it a chance in any form you'd like. The Red Lotus Society of San Diego is calling for Peace in the Streets on New Year's Day between 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.

You could call them mini-flash mobs on every corner. Its goal is to fill the corners of 25 city blocks -- that's 100 street corners --in downtown San Diego on Jan.1.

The society is looking for volunteers to meditate, practice yoga, play music, dance, paint, anything in the name of peace and community.

"We're asking people for their intention for peace and capturing their statement on a piece of paper," said Dave Macek, Executive Director.

Those ideas will be placed in the society's Tea Room, a gathering place for discussion and community events and tea. The society, which is located in the Idea Hotel, promotes peace through meditation and yoga

Everybody is "welcome to enjoy and add to the many acts of peace, including the simplest act of hugging, " adds Keith Donohue, the Tea Room's manager.

People are invited to roam through downtown street corners and take part or not.

Donohue says they're not looking for money, just change.
