Starting this weekend you'll need to either wear your rain gear or a swimsuit when you visit LEGOLAND in Carlsbad.
The theme park's newest attraction, a giant five-acre water park, is open for business. Features include Orange Rush, a 312' long, 11' wide water slide and the Joker Soaker, an interactive platform in the wading pool dotted with powerful water cannons and surrounding a giant jester model that dumps 350 gallons of water on anyone close by.
A half dozen other water-themed attractions complete the water park, which opened to the public Friday.
Fifty children from "Promises 2 Kids' Camp-Connect" joined their brothers and sisters and got the new water park all to themselves for awhile Friday to splash around, slide around and just kid around and have fun before the public invasion.
These are children who live in foster homes and are usually separated from their siblings. However, research has shown that foster kids who stay connected to their young family members, acquire better self esteem, confidence, sense of belonging and suffer less trauma. That's the role "Promise 2 Kids" and the program's "Camp Connect" play; keeping brothers and sisters connected as much as possible even if they are living apart.
LEGOLAND Water park is a $10 upgrade from the standard California admission and is included in the price of the Water Park Hopper tickets and Resort Hopper tickets.
LEGOLAND plans to invest more than $15 million into the resort this year. Other features to look for include a new 4-D movie and expansion of the Sealife aquarium.
