If you love guacamole, make sure you block off your Saturday afternoon and head to Balboa Park.
More than 30 teams will use their own recipes to whip up bowls of guacamole at the Balboa Park Club for the 7th annual Guacamole Bowl. Members of law enforcement will face off against Kiwanis service clubs and the general public for the coveted top prize. There will also be a professional division with local restaurants and caterers squaring off.
Money raised by this year’s event will go to SPORTS for Exceptional Athletes. Over the past six years, the Guacamole Bowl, co-sponsored by San Diego Park & Recreation-Therapeutic Recreation Services, has raised over $35,000 to support local programs for athletes with developmental disabilities, according to the event’s Web site.
The first place team will get its name permanently engraved on the highly coveted, “Guacamole Cup.”
The guac-off will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is $5 and includes a bag of chips and a vote of your choice.
